Editor's Note:

The SuperEQ Headphones indeed provide a unique experience while listening to your favourite music. The Hybrid Active Noice Cancelling feature helps to reduce the outside noise making it a lot easier to focus on your work. I do believe the S1 provide a much higher value than their price tag.

Nowadays the market with headphones is overly saturated where many brands promise great value from their products at the lowest price possible. However, today, I've got a headset which definitely stands out the competition and despite I was looking for a new headphone set, I wanted to try out the SuperEQ S1 and see how much they can offer with a price tag of only 54.99$ at the time of writing this article.

Are the SuperEQ S1 the best headphones you can buy under 60$? Is the Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling technology any good? Let's find out!

Together with this article, I have created a video review where I go through a live demo and sharing my first thoughts.

What's in the box?

  • 1x SuperEQ S1 Headphones
  • 1x Pouch
  • 2x User Guides
  • 1x Headphone Jack Cable
  • 1x Charging Cable
  • 1x Airplane Adapter

The Design

The SuperEQ S1 headphones are made out of plastic, however don't let that fool you. On the touch, the headphones don't feel cheap at all! They are flexible and the ear-pads are made out of ultra-soft protein leather with memory foam, ensuring a high convenience while wearing them for a long period of time. Each ear-cup contains microphones which help to cancel out further the background noise, where the background noise can be successfully be reduced by up to 33dB. I personally wore the headphones for 6 hours straight and I found them to be a lot more relaxing compared to the previous headphones I was wearing.

Does it come with a case?

Yes, the SuperEQ S1 come with a pouch to help you carry the headphones around as well as put them in a suitcase to avoid leaving scratches and marks on them. While the pouch is not hard enough, it's enough to avoid rubbing the headphones with other objects.

How do you control the Headphones?

On the right ear-cup, there are 4 buttons, 1 headphone jack input and one input for charging. The single button on the bottom, is used to turn on/off the ambient sound and the noise cancelling by pressing it once. The three buttons next to each other, the middle of those, containing an "o" on top, is used to turn on and off the headphones. By pressing on the right button (two dots) and right button (one dot) to increase and decrease the volume respectively. The headphones also let you answer, hang up or switch calls.

The headphones also have voice assistance letting you know each functionality done after pressing on a button.

Is the audio quality good?

The SuperEQ S1 have an overall good sound sound quality compared to other headphones at a similar price tag. I personally feel that the audio quality is better than any other headphones I have used in the past and the quality could be comparable to the Apple Solo Beats3. There is a good base control with high latency and hence, making the pairing connection fast with any device you will connect them to.

How good is the battery?

The headphones are boasting 40 hours + of continuous use. Of course, the battery life varies depending on whether you have ambient noise or noise cancellation turned on. The battery life is listed as following:

  • 40 hours - if ambient noise and noise cancelling is turned on.
  • 45 hours - if only ambient noise is turned on.
  • 50 hours - if only noise cancelling is turned on.
  • Unlimited - if headphones are connected via the headphone jack cable.

Final thoughts

After using the SuperEQ S1 headphones for a few days now, I believe they perfectly fill in my needs. Because I like going to other places to do my work, for instance the library or in the local cafe, I find it super convenient to use the headphones to only block the background noise, to help me concentrate better.

I really like the realistic sound quality they provide. While the max volume is not that high, I always tend to listen to the music at a low volume, as listening to the music at a higher volume than 70-80dB, it could slowly damage your ears over the years.

Should I buy the SuperEQ S1?

If you are looking for new headphones and you have a budget, I believe the SuperEQ S1 would be a great fit for you. The good thing is, you're paying for less than what you get. I am sure you will be very satisfied no matter how you will use them.

Potential troubleshooting

Just like any headphones, the SuperEQ S1 have lagging sound every now and then. this is very common with connecting headphones to your computer and it can be caused by interference with other devices.

How to fix SuperEQ S1 or any other headphones lag sound?

  1. Turn off the bluetooth connection of your computer/phone and forget the headphones connection.
  2. Turn off your headphones.
  3. Turn on bluetooth on your computer/phone.
  4. Turn on headphones again and pair them to your device.
  5. Play your music.

Now the headphones should provide a clear audio without any lag. If this ever happens in the future again, then repeat the steps above and you should get the issue resolved!
